You’ve made the decision that you are ready for great headshots. Now to get ready!
…but where do you start?
It’s easier than you think. This list may help!
FIGURE OUT HOW YOU WANT TO LOOK.
Think about what “vibes” or moods you want to show in your headshots. Most likely, you are going to use your headshots for different things. If You are coming in for acting headshots, you will want looks for different types of characters you want to play. If you are coming for professional headshots, you may want one look for LinkedIn, a different look for Facebook, a different look for trade publications or business cards. Have a look in your wardrobe and find the clothing that best fits those moods for you.

Makeup:
If you wear makeup:
I highly recommend hiring a professional makeup artist for your headshot session, here’s why
SHOULD I HIRE A MAKEUP ARTIST FOR MY HEADSHOT SESSION
If you choose to do your own:
We will want your makeup to look as if you are going on a job interview.
Avoid powder foundations, matte lipsticks, or any products with an SPF rating
Please bring your makeup and hair supplies with you so we can make changes or do touch-ups as needed
For those who don’t wear makeup:
If your skin is not naturally oily, you may want a touch of moisturizer, and a little clear lip balm is great.
If you do have oily skin or just want to make sure you don’t look shiny, I recommend Peter Thomas Roth Max anti-shine mattifying gel. I personally use it whenever I’m going to be in front of the camera, including Zoom meetings!
Hair:
Most of the time, you are going to know how to style your hair the way you like it better than anyone else. Keep it simple and how you love it. If you have long hair, bring a ponytail holder.
Finally:
About a week before your session start drinking lots of water and try to avoid things that will dehydrate you. The night before your session, be sure to get a good night’s sleep. You will want to eat before your session.
We will have fun in the studio, so no stressing before you come in.
