You’ve made the decision that you are ready for great professional headshots. Now to get ready!

…but how do you prepare for a professional headshot?

It’s easier than you think. This list may help!

How Should I Dress For A Headshot?

When you are trying to decide what you should wear for your headshots, the first thing to consider who will be seeing it and why.  For example, if  is going on your company website, and the culture of your company is one where a suit is appropriate, you will want to bring your best.

Or perhaps you work in a business that is a bit more casual. In that case maybe a shirt with a collar, no tie, and a blazer.

There are, of course, loads of other examples. The key is to think about who you are trying to make an impression with and what is goin to resonate with them.

What many of my clients find is they end up using different headshots for different places they use them. You may want a look for LinkedIn, a different look for Facebook, a different look for trade publications or business cards and maybe a couple of different looks for your website. Have a look in your wardrobe and find the clothing that best fits those moods for you.

Makeup for Headshots

If you wear makeup:

I highly recommend hiring a professional makeup artist for your headshot session, here’s why
SHOULD I HIRE A MAKEUP ARTIST FOR MY HEADSHOT SESSION

If you choose to do your own:
We will want your makeup to look as if you are going on a job interview.
Avoid powder foundations, matte lipsticks, or any products with an SPF rating
Please bring your makeup and hair supplies with you so we can make changes or do touch-ups as needed

For those who don’t wear makeup:

If your skin is not naturally oily, you may want a touch of moisturizer, and a little clear lip balm is great.

If you do have oily skin or just want to make sure you don’t look shiny, I recommend  a mattifying gel.  I personally use it whenever I’m going to be in front of the camera, including Zoom meetings!

This is the mattifying gel I use.
