Do headshots have to be vertical, or can they be horizontal?
They can be either, but in my studio, headshots are typically photographed horizontally unless you ask for vertical. Here’s why: on places like LinkedIn and most company websites, you get a tiny amount of space to make an impression. A horizontal crop usually lets us frame your face larger in that small profile window. If the image includes too much body in a small circle or thumbnail, people can’t actually see you. And the whole point of a headshot is that people recognize you quickly. If you know you need vertical images for something specific, speaker graphics, a press [...]
How soon will I receive my finished professional headshots?
For most individual headshot sessions, finished images are delivered within one to three business days after you’ve made your selections. Because I work with my camera connected directly to my computer, you’ll see your images in real time and make your selections while you’re still in the studio. This removes stress for you and significantly speeds up the delivery process. If you have a specific deadline, it’s always best to mention it when scheduling or during your session. I’ll let you know what’s realistic based on my current workload so expectations are clear from the start. [...]
Do you retouch headshots, and what does retouching include?
Yes. Every headshot you purchase includes professional retouching. My approach is simple. You should look like yourself on your very best day, not a Barbi. Retouching typically includes things like removing stray hairs and temporary blemishes. I keep your skin texture natural and your expression untouched. No Instagram filters or no weird blurring. You will still look like you. If there’s something specific you want adjusted, we can talk about it while reviewing your images together. The goal is always the same. A clean, polished, professional version of you.
What to Bring to a Professional Headshot Session
Bring a few clothing options you genuinely like and feel good in. Most people arrive with two or three tops so we can create a range of looks. If you wear a blazer or jacket for work, bring it. Layering pieces give us flexibility and often photograph really well. Accessories matter too. If your shirt uses collar stays, bring them. Small details can elevate the final image. If you sometimes wear glasses, bring them so we can photograph you both ways. If you’re working with one of my makeup artists, you don’t need to bring any makeup unless you [...]
Can I book professional headshots for the same day?
As an appointment-based studio, I can’t guarantee same-day sessions. My online scheduler won’t allow bookings inside a 24-hour window. That said, life happens. People change jobs, speaking gigs pop up, LinkedIn decides to blow up your profile… and suddenly you need a new headshot right now. If you’re in that situation, call the studio at 502-509-3759. If I can work you in, I absolutely will.
What backgrounds do you offer for professional headshots?
The most important part of your headshot is you. If someone notices the background before they notice your expression, you've got a problem. That’s why I photograph all professional headshots on white or grey. Both keep the focus exactly where it should be and never compete with your face. This also gives you far more flexibility when you use your images. Clean backgrounds make it easy to add text, graphics, or cropping for different platforms without anything looking messy. For corporate teams, white or grey also keeps your branding consistent and future proof. Outdoor headshots might look nice in [...]
Do you do professional headshots teams or corporate groups
Yes. I photograph teams and corporate groups of all sizes. Companies like Louisville Paving & Construction, Goldberg Simpson, and others work with me to keep their entire team looking consistent and professional. If you have a large group, you can book a dedicated studio day or I can bring the studio to you. Everyone is photographed on a clean white or grey background with my signature lighting. Each person gets coaching in front of the camera so we capture genuine expressions, not stiff “school photo” smiles. Your team will also review their images with me on the spot and [...]
What’s the difference between a professional headshot and a casual photo?
A professional headshot is the one photo where you are the product. It’s an image built to speak directly to employers, clients, and professional connections. Everything about it is intentional. The lighting, the angle, the expression coaching, the posture, the background. All of it is designed to make you look confident, approachable, trustworthy, and like someone people want to work with. A casual photo is exactly that. It might be a great shot from a friend’s wedding or a night out, but those photos exist to document a moment, not represent your personal brand. They’re not built to connect [...]
How Often Should I Update My Headshot
We see ourselves in the mirror every day, so we don’t always notice how small changes add up over time. Before you know it, the headshot on your website or LinkedIn stops looking like the person people meet in real life. For most professionals, updating your headshot every two years keeps things accurate and credible. There are times when you should update it sooner. If you’ve gained or lost weight, changed your hairstyle, grown a beard, shaved a beard, or made any noticeable change to your appearance, it’s worth refreshing your headshot right away.
Should I wear my glasses for my headshot?
If you wear glasses in your everyday life, we should absolutely create headshots with them on. If you sometimes wear them and sometimes don’t, we can photograph both looks so you have options. Some lenses show more glare than others, depending on your prescription and the lens material. I’ll adjust lighting and angles to minimize,or completely eliminate, reflections so your images stay clean and professional.
